How this works between us.

KokkoTales is a storybook studio in Malé, Maldives. In these terms “we” and “us” mean KokkoTales, and “you” means the person using this site or placing an order.

Write to studio@kokkotales.com. A person reads every message.

By using this site or placing an order you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

We may change them — prices, products and the law all move. The date at the top is when this version was written, and the version on this page at the moment you order is the one that applies to that order. A change never alters an order we have already accepted.

You must be an adult and able to enter a contract. KokkoTales is bought by grown-ups for children; a child cannot hold an account here.

If you are ordering a book about a child who is not yours, you confirm you have the permission of the person responsible for that child — particularly before sending us a photograph of them.

Keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think somebody else has it. You can reset it yourself at any time.

You are responsible for what happens under your account. We can suspend or close an account that is being used to break these terms, and we will say why.

A storybook personalised for one child — as a digital edition, or printed and delivered as well. A commissioned story is written for you from the brief you give us.

You are buying a copy to keep, read and give. You may read it aloud, lend it, and give it as a present. You may not resell it, reproduce it for sale, or publish it as your own.

Prices are in Maldivian rufiyaa. Any other currency shown on the site is an approximate conversion offered for reading only — the rufiyaa figure is the price.

Payment is a bank transfer quoting your order number as the reference, followed by uploading your transfer slip. We never ask for card details and no card payment is processed on this site. Nothing is made until we have matched the transfer against our statement and confirmed it.

An unreferenced transfer is not a slow payment, it is one we cannot match — please quote the order number exactly as shown.

Occasionally something on the site is wrong: a price, a page count, a delivery time. Where an obvious error has been listed, we are not obliged to sell at that price. We will tell you before making anything, and you can confirm at the corrected price or have every rufiyaa back.

Colours vary between screens and print. We show the artwork as faithfully as we can and cannot guarantee your screen matches the printed page.

For a commissioned story we send you a draft. You can ask for changes and we make them — nothing is printed until you have seen the pages and said yes.

Delivery dates we give are our honest estimate rather than a guarantee. If something is going to be late we will tell you rather than let the date pass quietly.

Cancel before we have started making it and you get everything back, in full.

After that, a book personalised for one named child cannot be resold to anybody else, so it is not returnable simply because you changed your mind. That is the trade for having it made for you.

It is different if the book is wrong. A book that arrives damaged, misprinted, missing pages, or not as agreed is reprinted or refunded — tell us within 14 days of receiving it. Nothing here affects the rights the law gives you as a consumer.

A brief, a child’s name and details, and sometimes a photograph. You keep all of it. You give us permission to use it for one purpose: making, printing and delivering your book.

We do not publish it, we do not use it in marketing, and we do not share it. What we may not accept is material that is not yours to send, or that is unlawful, hateful or harmful to a child — we will refuse the order and refund it.

If you commission a story you may, entirely optionally, let us adapt it for other children. It is a separate choice, it is never assumed, and you can withdraw it whenever you like.

That permission covers the STORY only. Your child’s name, photograph, likeness and dedication are never part of it, and no copy of your book is ever sold to anybody else.

The stories, illustrations, characters, site design and the KokkoTales name are ours or licensed to us. Buying a book does not transfer them.

Your child’s name, likeness, photograph and dedication remain yours. The drawing we make of your child is our illustration; it is kept for your future books and shown only to you.

Please do not try to break into accounts or areas that are not yours, scrape or copy the catalogue, upload anything malicious, or use the site to break the law. We can refuse service where any of that is happening.

We aim to keep the site up and cannot promise it is never interrupted. Maintenance, a failure at our hosting provider, or something outside our control can take it offline for a while. Your orders, your books and your library are unaffected by that.

If we get your order wrong we put it right — a reprint, or your money back. Where we are liable for something else that goes wrong, our responsibility is limited to what you paid for that order.

We are not responsible for indirect losses, and we do not limit liability for anything the law does not permit us to limit — including death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or our own fraud.

What we hold about you and your child, who processes it, how long it is kept and how to have it deleted are all in the Privacy Policy, which also covers cookies. It is the more important of these two documents; please read it.

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Maldives, and the courts of the Maldives have jurisdiction over any dispute.

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
